Beta Testing
spacefeeds.com is sort of launched – but not really. It’s launched and public, but I still have lots of work before this site is ready for prime time. Once I get the site in a somewhat ready existence for public consumption, I’ll write out the detailes of my process and a step-by-step guide of how I got here.
The basic overview of how I got to where I’m at now started with me coding all the functionality in php – that was a fun exercise, but that site was a little sloppy. I then found SimplePie and things got a lot better. But for reasons I will never understand I went way overboard and created the thing using Drupal – which was fun, but way too many choices and options for a site like this. That’s when I ended up using WordPress. WordPress was the right fit and it already had a SimplePie plugin I could use. Then I found the onenews theme, bought it – and realized (since it’s widget based) it wasn’t the right fit for me. That’s how I ended up with a ground-up, heavily customized WordPress install and theme. Oh, and somewhere, sometime during this process my database got hacked, so I lost both of my WordPress installs (this one and theotherdayago.com)…
Anyway – welcome to the publicly facing beta test of spacefeeds.com
